North Dakota Film Critics nominations: ‘The Power of the Dog,’ ‘West Side Story’ lead, ‘Flee’ nominated for Best Picture
The 3rd North Dakota Film Society (NDFS) nominations for the best achievements in cinema of 2021 were announced today where Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog received 11 nominations, the most of any film. It will compete for Best Picture alongside Flee, The French Dispatch, Licorice Pizza, and Nightmare Alley. Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story earned the second most nominations with 8 nominations.
Flee is the first animated film to be nominated for the Best Picture prize in North Dakota Film Society Awards history. The film also earned nominations for Best Animated Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best International Feature. For three years in a row, NDFS has nominated the same film for Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature (Honeyland in 2019 and Collective in 2020).
For eligibility, members of NDFS considered all films released in the calendar year in at least one cinema in North Dakota or on a largely accessible streaming service, in addition to those made available for consideration to members of the society between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
The winners of the 3rd North Dakota Film Society Awards will be announced Monday, January 17, 2022.
