New images and a behind the scenes look at ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’
Today, Netflix revealed new images, behind the scenes looks and the first poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, arriving in select theaters this November and streaming globally on December 9.
This adaptation of the classic Carlo Collodi tale began more than 15 years ago for del Toro, who calls his version “the story you think you know but you don’t.” Working alongside stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson, this reimagining delves deeper into the world of Pinocchio and his wood-carving father Gepetto.
The puppets themselves are intricate machines, both carved and mechanical in nature, down to the smallest details of eyes, nose and mouth movements but created in a way to not look or feel too polished. “Perfectly imperfect,” as del Toro said in an event on the making of the film held for recently.
The cast includes Gregory Mann as Pinocchio (his first major film role), Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Academy Award winners Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, and Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman. It is a co-directed effort from Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, and produced by del Toro, Lisa Henson (Jim Henson Company), Gary Ungar, Alex Bulkley, and Corey Campodonico (Shadow Machine).
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio will world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 15 then AFI FEST on November 5 before its theatrical and streaming run.
He is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, accredited by the Cannes Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and more, is a member of the International Cinephile Society (ICS), The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (GALECA), Critics Choice Association (CCA), San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle (SFBAFCC) and the International Press Academy.
