‘Birdman,’ Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ Win Art Directors Guild Awards

Birdman, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Grand Budapest Hotel won their respective categories with the Art Directors Guild on Saturday evening, with Guardians being a bit of a surprise champion. Competing in the Fantasy category, it bested Interstellar and Into the Woods (both Oscar nominated) for the award. Birdman and The Grand Budapest, winning Contemporary and Period were expected wins. The win further bolsters the The Gold Rush Gang’s prediction that The Grand Budapest Hotel will end up our Oscar winner in the Production Design category but also that Guardians‘ win here could prove stronger support in its two nominated categories, Best Visual Effects (it currently ranks 3rd behind Interstellar and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Best Makeup & Hairstyling.
