AARP Movies for Grownups nominations: ‘Chicago 7’ leads, group add TV awards

The Trial of the Chicago 7 led the AARP Movies for Grownups nominations on Monday morning and was joined by Minari, Nomadland, One Night in Miami and The United States vs. Billie Holiday in the Best Picture/Best Movie for Grownups category.

For the first time, the group announced TV categories, where the nominees for Best Series are Perry Mason, Succession, Ted Lasso, The Crown, and This Is Us. There is no separation between comedy and drama. Best TV Movie/Limited Series category, nominations go to Mrs. America, Small Axe, The Queen’s Gambit, Unorthodox, and Watchmen. It’s unclear what timetable of eligibility the group used as many nominees aired before the 2020 calendar year and general Emmy eligibility for 2020-2021.

George Clooney will receive the Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award.

Here is the complete list of nominees. Winners will be announced on March 4 with an awards ceremony broadcast by Great Performances on Sunday, March 28 at 8pm ET on PBS, its PBS.org website and the PBS Video app and hosted by Hoda Kotb, NBC News’ Today co-anchor and co-host of Today with Hoda & Jenna.
