ACE Eddie Nominations: ‘Molly’s Game,’ ‘Blade Runner 2049’ make the cut
The Post, The Shape of Water, Baby Driver and I, Tonya are among the 2018 ACE Eddie Award nominees for film editing from the American Cinema Editors. Categories are broken down between Dramatic and Comedy and while Get Out was placed in Comedy (as it was at the Globes), Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri was too, despite being submitted in Drama at the Globes. Since all entries are approved by the studio and film editor, it’s a bit of a surprise that it showed up here, in that category. That left room in Dramatic for Molly’s Game, which is pretty good news for the film. The only film to hit ACE (Dramatic) and not earn a Producers Guild nomination in its expanded lineup was Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Blade Runner 2049 also made the cut in Dramatic but will it hit PGA or stumble like Star Wars did.
The ACE Eddie is a strong sign of guild strength. Take a look at the incredible crossover between it and getting a PGA nomination. Guess this means I need to rethink my PGA predictions.
