American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Nominations: ‘Frankenstein,’ Marty Supreme’ Make the Cut, ‘Hamnet’ Misses

The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) has revealed its nominations for the five directors of photography they voted as the top for feature films.
The feature film nominees for the 40th ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards are Frankenstein (Netflix) by Dan Laustsen, Marty Supreme (A24) by Darius Khondji, One Battle after Another (Warner Bros.) by Michael Bauman, Sinners (Warner Bros) — Autumn Durald Arkapaw and Train Dreams (Netflix) by Adolpho Veloso. Notably, Łukasz Žal’s work on Hamnet did not make the cut.
The number of nominees in the theatrical feature category can vary between five and 10, depending on the percentage of votes a film receives. The Oscars reintroduced the shortlist for cinematography this year, also with a sliding scale, where 16 films are eligible. All nominees here are on the Oscar shortlist.
In television, the nominees included The Studio, Andor, The White Lotus, Hacks, Task and Severance.
The 40th annual ASC Awards will take place on March 8 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Previously announced, honors being bestowed the night of the ASC Awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award
to Robert Yeoman, ASC; the Career Achievement in Television Award to M. David Mullen, ASC; the Presidents Award to Cynthia Pusheck, ASC and the Award of Distinction to Stephen Pizzello.
