Call Me By Your Name Leads GALECA’s Dorian Award Nominations
GALECA, the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (of which I am a voting member), announced its nominees for its Dorian awards today and Call Me By Your Name led the way with nine nominations including Film of the Year, Director of the Year and acting mentions for Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg.
The sci-fi fantasy/romance The Shape of Water came in with seven nominations, Jordan Peele’s scathing indictment on racism in America, Get Out, earned six and both BPM (Beats Per Minute) and Lady Bird earned five, rounding out the Film of the Year nominees.
In some of the more creative and unique categories of the Dorian Awards, the Campy Movie of the Year nominees are: Baywatch, The Disaster Artist, The Greatest Showman, I, Tonya and mother! and in a bit of coup also earned a Supporting Actress nomination for Michelle Pfeiffer. Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) also nabbed a Supporting Actress nomination along with a We’re Wild About You Rising Star Award mention alongside Chalamet, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Kaluuya and Daniela Vega.
On the Television side, Big Little Lies, Feud: Bette and Joan and Twin Peaks: The Return earned nominations for TV Drama of the Year while The Good Place, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and GLOW were nominated for TV Comedy of the Year.
The Dorian Award winners, including GALECA’s pick for Timeless Star (a career achievement honor), will be announced on January 31 with a winner’s toast to follow on February 24 in Los Angeles.
