Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Nominations: ‘Barbie,’ ‘Maestro’, ‘Napoleon’ Make the Cut, ‘The Color Purple,’ ‘Wonka’ Out
The Costume Designers Guild announced today the official nominees list for the 26th CDGA (Costume Designers Guild Awards), where top contenders like Barbie, Maestro, Poor Things, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon all made the cut.
Napoleon, which already started off well in the Oscar shortlists, made the final five for Period Film over the likes of The Color Purple, Chevalier and Priscilla. Wonka also missed, a contender in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film category where Barbie was joined by Haunted Mansion, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, The Little Mermaid and Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.
In Contemporary Film the nominees are American Fiction, May December, Nyad, Renfield and Saltburn.
In television, A Black Lady Sketch Show, The Bear, The Gilded Age, The Last of Us, George & Tammy, The Crown and The Great all received nominations.
Shawna Trpcic, who passed away in October, was among those double nominated for their television work. She received nods for Ahsoka and The Mandalorian. Trayce Gigi Field also received two nominations, for Poker Face and the Doritos SuperBowl commercial.
Celebrating excellence in film, television, short form costume design, and costume illustration, the annual CDGA ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at NeueHouse Hollywood. Winners in the nine categories will be announced live at the event.
“I am delighted to extend my sincere congratulations to all the nominees for this year’s CDGA. It is with immense pride that this year our union will be including and celebrating all CDG classifications, including costume designers, assistant costume designers, and costume illustrators. Your remarkable contributions have elevated the art of costume design, and we look forward to honoring and recognizing your outstanding work during this special event. Best wishes to each nominee,” said Terry Gordon, President of the Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892.
