‘Diana the Musical,’ ‘Karen,’ Jared Leto, Amy Adams top 42nd Razzie nominations
Netflix’s Diana the Musical, based on the Broadway play that closed after less than 40 performances, led the pack of this year’s Golden Raspberry nominations, aka the Razzie, “celebrating” the worst in film, with nine, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and four acting mentions in each main category.
The terrorizing white woman thriller Karen and the long-delayed disaster The Woman in the Window were next with five nominations apiece and both Dear Evan Hansen and Space Jam: A New Legacy came in with four.
Several actors found themselves double-nominated, including Oscar winner Jared Leto. He was nominated for Worst Supporting Actor and the highly specialized Worst Couple category for Either His 17-Pound Latex Face, His Geeky Clothes or His Ridiculous Accent, both for House of Gucci. 6-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams is up for Worst Actress for The Woman in the Window and Worst Supporting Actress for Dear Evan Hansen. Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner Ben Platt is a double nominee as Worst Actor and, like Leto, Worst Couple – Any Other Character Who Acts Like Platt Singing 24-7 is Normal, both for Dear Evan Hansen. Taryn Manning is also up for Worst Actress (Karen) and Worst Supporting Actress (Every Last One of Them).
The time-travel movie Infinite rounded out the worst picture category, also earning a worst actor nomination for Mark Wahlberg and worst supporting actress for Sophie Cookson.
Bruce Willis earned his own special category — worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie. Proving that quantity doesn’t mean quality, Willis “earned” eight nominations covering all of his 2021 films: American Siege, Apex, Cosmic Sin, Deadlock, Fortress, Out of Death, Survive the Game and Midnight in the Switchgrass.
