The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) announced the 2021 nominees in music for film, television and visual media today with Netflix’s Don’t Look Up and CODA from Apple Original Films leading with three apiece.

Several films earned double noms including MGM’s No Time to Die, Netflix’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines and Warner Bros. King Richard. Songwriter Diane Warren received two nods, for “Somehow You Do” from Four Good Days (Vertical Entertainment) and “(Never Gonna) Tame You” from The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses (Virgil Films).

Some high profile titles missing include Jonny Greenwood’s score for Spencer (although he made the cut for The Power of the Dog) and Hans Zimmer’s Dune score only showing up in the genre-specific sci-fi category yet No Time to Die making the top category.

The HMMA are one of the few precursors we have for Best Original Score and Original Song categories and it can sometimes be a sign of things to come. The awards will be presented on Wednesday, November 17th.
