Emerald Fennell’s ‘Saltburn’ to open 67th BFI London Film Festival

Amazon Studios and MGM announced today that Saltburn, Emerald Fennell’s follow-up to her Oscar-winning debut Promising Young Woman, will open the 67th BFI London Film Festival as an international premiere. The film will be in theaters on November 24, 2023.
The thriller finds student Oliver Quick (Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan) struggling to find his place at Oxford University, finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi, HBO’s Euphoria), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten. Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan, Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant also star, alongside Alison Oliver and Archie Madekwe.
“As soon as the credits rolled on Saltburn it was clear we’d met our opening night film. Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell returns with an expertly crafted and exhilarating thrill ride of a film that showcases an enormous depth of UK talents in front of and behind the camera,” said BFI Festival Director Kristy Matheson. “With its exceptional performances, delicious plot twists and a soundtrack of early 21st century pop bangers, this hugely ambitious film immediately stole our hearts and we can’t wait to share it with audiences in London and across the UK this October,” she continued.
Fennell won the Original Screenplay Oscar for 2020’s Promising Young Woman, which was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress (Carey Mulligan). Saltburn is written and directed by Fennell, who produced with Margot Robbie and Josey McNamara.
New announcements from TIFF and NYFF are expected this and next week and Telluride announces the day of the festival. With the designation of ‘international premiere’ at LFF, we can expect Saltburn to show up at one or more of them.
