The nominations for the 29th European Film Awards were revealed today and female-led films dominated the field, especially the top category, Best European Film, where the nominees are: Elle, I, Daniel Blake, Julieta, Room and Toni Erdman. Toni Erdmann was the most-nominated film of the day with five, also picking up directing, screenplay and acting nominations for Sandra Hüller and Peter Simonischek.
The 2016 Cannes Palme d’Or winner I, Daniel Blake was next with four and Elle and Julieta walked away with three nominations apiece. Room, which won the Best Actress Oscar for Brie Larson earlier this year, was also nominated for its screenplay, written by Emma Donoghue. As the European Film Awards are only open to European citizens, Larson was not eligible here.
THE 29th EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS will be held on December 10th, 2016 inWroclaw, Poland and will be streamed live at http://www.europeanfilmawards.eu/.
