FINAL Oscar Predictions from the Gold Rush Gang: The Bird vs. The Boy
Film Editing should go to Boyhood. Collecting 12 years worth of material and editing it into a single, cohesive piece is no easy feat. All 10 of the Gold Rush Gang members agree and even though the 2nd-5th spots are pretty close, they’re a long way off from winning. Of course, if Boyhood were to lose this we’ll know that it’s most definitely not winning Best Picture. But, without Birdman here it should be a slam dunk.
Ah, the coffee table awards. At least that’s what we used to call them in the 1980s. Emmanuel Lubeski can count on winning the Cinematography award for the 2nd year in a row (he won for Gravity last year) for his lensing of Birdman. He also just won the ASC (American Society of Cinematographers) guild award this week. Sorry Roger Deakins, you’ll just have to wait yet another year. The Grand Budapest Hotel should have an easy time picking up the Production Design, Costume Design and Makeup and Hairstyling Oscars, it’s the favorite in all three categories. I’m still giving the edge to Guardians of the Galaxy in the Makeup and Hairstyling category but a sweep from Budapest here won’t surprise me at all.
