FINAL Predictions for 2016 Emmy Nominations

Well, we’re in the final stretch. The 68th Emmy Nominations are in two days and here are the FINAL predictions from The Emmy Experts of AwardsWatch in the Drama, Comedy, Limited Series/TV Movie and Variety categories.
As you may have heard in the two recent Emmy podcasts, our predictions have made some frantic, last minute changes. Some are often due to panic but some through persuasive argument. As usual, you’ll see some categories with a lot uniformity among the Experts (Variety Sketch Series sees every one of us with the same six) and then many others branching out on their own with some very risky predictions. I’ve stuck with my above the line predictions for The Americans in all top categories, omitting Orange is the New Black (and Mr. Robot) in the process. All other Experts have OITNB, a much safer prediction, to be sure. We’ve all gone heavy on Horace and Pete and believe that Louis C.K.’s self-funded series will make a big showing on nomination morning.
Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and/or Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) hope to be the CW’s first top nominee(s) with three Experts predicting one of them. Lead Actress in a Comedy Series is a very open category this year with three of last year’s nominees gone. Jonathan and myself have stuck with our Mom predictions resulting in 5-time Comedy Series winner Modern Family being dropped. Although it seems like a year (or two) early for The Emmys to drop the show we’ll be sitting pretty with that prediction if it happens this year.
Limited Series continued to be the toughest right to the end. Just how big is The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story going to be? Its dominance over Supporting Actor and Writing could be the biggest nomination sweep in years.
So, without further ado, here are the 2016 Emmy Nomination Predictions from The Emmy Experts. Click on the images to enlarge.
