20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for The Hate U Give, the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas, a ripped from the headlines story that deals with one America’s most pressing and sadly common issues, the killing of a young black man by a white police officer.

Official synopsis:

The Hate U Give stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Regina Hall (Girls Trip), Russell Hornsby (Grimm), KJ Apa (Riverdale), Algee Smith (Detroit), Lamar Johnson (the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix), Issa Rae (Insecure), Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World), with Oscar winner Common (Selma) and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker).

It’s directed by George Tillman, Jr. (Soul Food, Men of Honor) from a screenplay by Audrey Wells and produced by Robert Teitel, George Tillman, Jr., Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey.
