First Batch of Posters for ‘The Danish Girl’ with Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander (UPDATE)

The first collection of posters for the Toronto and Venice entry The Danish Girl from Focus Features and starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and the now ubiquitous Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Testament of Youth) has popped up today showing us great detail about Redmayne’s transition in the film. It’s hard to tell if these are official or not but they look like the real thing, save the placeholder type in some of the credits. The tagline “Find the Courage to Be Yourself” feels Oscar-ready, if a bit eye-rollingly uninspired. Speaking of Oscar, much has been discussed about Vikander’s possible category placement for the race and I feel very comfortable in my placement of her in Lead, where I’ve had her since the beginning of the year. A push to Supporting would seem to be some serious category fraud but hey, it’s happened plenty of times before so who knows. It all depends on how Focus Features thinks it can best manage the campaigns (and expectations) of their two big movies this season, The Danish Girl and Suffragette.

[box type=”shadow” align=”aligncenter” class=”” width=””]THE DANISH GIRL, directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper, is the remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Einar and Gerda Wegener (being portrayed, respectively, by Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander), whose marriage and work are cast into the unknown when Einar begins a groundbreaking journey to become one of the world’s first transgender women, Lili Elbe. THE DANISH GIRL has been adapted into a screenplay by BAFTA Award nominee Lucinda Coxon, based on the novel of the same name by David Ebershoff. The film’s cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts (The Drop), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall), and Amber Heard (The Rum Diary). Mr. Schlessel commented, “In the tradition of Focus’ history of epic and moving love stories, THE DANISH GIRL promises to be unforgettable. Tom Hooper is an extraordinary storyteller who always elicits beautiful performances from his actors. We are so pleased to be working with Eddie Redmayne again after our shared success with Working Title on THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING.”[/box]

UPDATE: *These are not official posters or artwork sanctioned by Focus Features. Their origin is unknown but they are 100% unofficial.*
