The first trailer for Collateral Beauty is here and by all appearances the film looks to be not much more than a holiday dramedy with tons of “Academy Award Nominee…” and “Academy Award Winner…” title cards to boost its visibility, box office, and awards potential.
Collateral Beauty stars Will Smith as a New York advertising executive who experiences a personal tragedy and retreats from life entirely, he begins writing letters, not to people, but to things – time, love, death – all of which manifest themselves in human form to help him deal with his grief.
The film, directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me), also stars Keira Knightley, Edward Norton, Michael Peña, Naomie Harris, Jacob Latimore, Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren.
Collateral Beauty is set for release by Warner Brothers on December 16th.
Erik Anderson is the founder/owner and Editor-in-Chief of AwardsWatch and has always loved all things Oscar, having watched the Academy Awards since he was in single digits; making lists, rankings and predictions throughout the show. This led him down the path to obsessing about awards. Much later, he found himself in film school and the film forums of GoldDerby, and then migrated over to the former Oscarwatch (now AwardsDaily), before breaking off to create AwardsWatch in 2013.
