George Clooney Takes a Look Inside in Teaser Trailer for Noah Baumbach’s ‘Jay Kelly’

Hot off the reveal of new images yesterday, Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, starring Academy Award winner George Clooney in the titular role.
In the film, Clooney plays a famous film actor but also one known for “just playing himself,” a cleverly unsubtle nod to Cloone in his long career of playing largely accent-free, debonair, good-looking men. Kelly and his devoted manager Ron (Adam Sandler) embark on a whirlwind and unexpectedly profound journey through Europe. Along the way, both men are forced to confront the choices they’ve made, the relationships with their loved ones, and the legacies they’ll leave behind.
In the recent feature in Vanity Fair, writer David Canfield details that Baumbach and co-writer Emily Mortimer (who also co-stars in the film) talked through everything from the psychological thrills of Hitchcock to the screwball odyssey of Preston Sturges’s Sullivan’s Travels. “It’s about falling back in love with what you do, and falling back in love with yourself,” Baumbach says.
Joining Clooney and Sandler are Academy Award winner Laura Dern, playing Kelly’s publicist, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent, Patrick Wilson, Eve Hewson, Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig, Alba Rohrwacher, Josh Hamilton, Lenny Henry, Emily Mortimer, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Isla Fisher, Louis Partridge and Charlie Rowe.
Baumbach, a four-time Academy Award nominee, produces alongside Academy Award nominees Amy Pascal and David Heyman and behind the scenes is a murderer’s row of the best of Hollywood. Two-time Academy Award nominee Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk) composed the score (which you can hear in the teaser), Academy Award winning-cinematographer Linus Sandgren (La La Land), two-time Academy Award winner Jacqueline Durran (Little Women, Anna Karenina) did the costumes, production design by Mark Tildesley (Phantom Thread, No Time to Die), editors Valerio Bonelli (The Martian, Darkest Hour) and Rachel Durance (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder), sound design by three-time Academy Award nominee Christopher Scarabosio (There Will Be Blood, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and casting by Douglas Aibel and Nina Gold round out the below the line lineup.
Jay Kelly will be in select theaters November 14 and on Netflix December 5. Here is the first teaser.
