Like the Screen Actors Guild, the Golden Globes honor television alongside film and right here are your fool-proof Golden Globe television predictions from yours truly. Something fun happened in the TV Series, Drama category with the Globes this year and that’s that they didn’t nominate the Emmy winner from this year, Breaking Bad, since it’s run was out of Golden Globe’s calendar year eligibility. With True Detective being put into the TV Movie/Miniseries category here, that takes out what likely would have been the Emmy runner-up. What we have left are Game of Thrones and House of Cards as the most likely to take the crown on Sunday. I have Game of Thrones winning even though House of Cards, with a win for Robin Wright last year, could certainly win here. I do have it as my alternate. As its only nomination (no Peter Dinklage this year), it’s a risk, I know.
In Drama Actress Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) has the most buzz and the Globes do love rewarding first season performances (like Robin Wright last year) and I think she’ll beat out this year’s Emmy winner, Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife). In Drama Actor, again with Breaking Bad out of the picture, Kevin Spacey stands the best shot at winning and the best chance for the show to get a win.
The Comedy categories are an exciting bunch as so much seems up in the air. I think Orange is the New Black will prevail but Transparent has all the buzz going in. Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) should be able to repeat in Best Actress but watch out for newcomer Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) to sneak in and grab it.
TV Movie/Miniseries will be a fight between True Detective and Fargo. Fargo triumphed here at the Emmys but didn’t have True Detective as a competitor. I think that TD will end up the winner here, along with Matthew McConaughey. But with 5 nominations, Fargo will be a formidable opponent.
