HCA TV Awards Night One: ‘The White Lotus,’ ‘Abbott Elementary,’ ‘Better Call Saul’ the big winners for Broadcast and Cable
The Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) revealed the TV award winners for Broadcast Network and Cable, night one of their two-night television celebration at The Beverly Hilton, live-streamed on the official HCA YouTube channel. The ceremony was hosted by The Daily Show with Trevor Noah correspondent Dulcé Sloan where the big winners were The White Lotus, Abbott Elementary, and Better Call Saul.
HBO’s The White Lotus was the biggest winner of the night with five (Best Writing in a Broadcast or Cable Limited, Anthology Series, or Movie, Best Directing in a Broadcast or Cable Limited, Anthology Series, or Movie, Best Supporting Actor in a Broadcast or Cable Limited, Anthology Series, or Movie for Murray Bartlett, Best Supporting Actress in a Broadcast or Cable Limited, Anthology Series, or Movie, for Jennifer Coolidge and Best Broadcast Network or Cable Limited or Anthology Series). ABC’s Abbott Elementary was next with four: Best Actress in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Comedy for Quinta Brunson, Best Supporting Actress in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Comedy for Janelle James, Best Writing in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Comedy, and Best Broadcast Network Series, Comedy).
AMC’s Better Call Saul also nabbed four wins: Best Supporting Actor in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Drama for Giancarlo Esposito, Best Supporting Actress in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Drama for Rhea Seehorn, Best Actor in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Drama for Bob Odenkirk, and Best Cable Series, Drama in a tie with HBO’s Succession. NBC’s This Is Us earned two wins, Best Broadcast Network Series, Drama and Best Writing in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Drama while Showtime’s Yellowjackets also took home two trophies, Best Directing in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Drama for Karyn Kusama and Best Actress in a Broadcast Network or Cable Series, Drama for Melanie Lynskey. FX’s What We Do in the Shadows was named Best Cable Series, Comedy.
Actress, Director, Singer, and Songwriter, Mandy Moore was honored with this year’s Virtuoso Award. The Virtuoso Award is presented to an individual who has cultivated the industry with their talent that expands well beyond a singular role. “Over the past two decades, Mandy Moore has transformed from a pop superstar to an actress to a director,” says HCA Founder, Scott Menzel. “Moore’s talent is undeniable, and her work on This Is Us solidifies that as she was able to combine all of her talents within this final chapter that included a multifaceted performance that left millions around the world in tears.”
This year, the Hollywood Critics Association, in partnership with Petco Love and Big Love Animal Rescue, turned the 2022 HCA TV Awards into a two-night rescue animal adoption event. “We hope to shine a spotlight on shelter dogs and help a few of them find their forever homes,” adds HCA Co-Founder, Ashley Menzel. “When you rescue a dog, they are forever grateful. Dogs know you saved them and they share their love unconditionally every single day. We are so glad to be hosting this adoption event as it is a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts.”
There was a designated Petco Love step and repeat with rescue dogs and puppies on the Red Carpet both nights. Additionally, at the ceremony after-parties, guests of the HCA TV Awards had the opportunity to adopt a rescue dog and give them a forever home.
The HCA TV Awards night two, awarding the best in streaming programming, will be presented live, and live-streamed tomorrow night on the HCA’s Official YouTube Channel and via the HCA App, which is available now to download on Apple TV and Roku.
