It’s impressive that a show like Netflix’s Cobra Kai in 2021, which is centered around Johnny Lawrence, in many ways embodies the spirit of the man who beat him at the All Valley Tournament in the original Karate Kid film from 1984. Show creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg spent some time with me recently to discuss their show’s first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.
While I did spend most of the time being self-serving (asking for spoilers), it was truly a joy to shine a light on the show which is always the underdog and defies the odds.
Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are nominated in Outstanding Comedy Series as producers and creators of Cobra Kai, which has submitted the episodes “Nature vs. Nurture,” “The Right Path,” “Miyagi-Do,” “King Cobra,” “Feel the Night,” “December 19” for Emmy consideration.
