Interview: Georgia Pritchett on her collaboration and creative process with ‘Succession’ and ‘The Shrink Next Door’ [VIDEO]

Who is Georgia Pritchett? Is she the person who developed the concept of a tiny Wu-Tang Clan for Kendall’s iconic birthday party last season on Succession? Was she responsible for Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell teaming up to acquire the rights to tell the story of The Shrink Next Door? Does she have to endure her children turning her awards into playthings? Well, the answer is a universal ‘Yes’ on all fronts.

Pritchett is highly dedicated and passionate about her work. While some writers can be classified as fitting a particular genre, she is at ease in any environment, whether writing Hugh Laurie in Avenue Five, crafting new bits for Tracey Ullman, or crafting new levels of depravity for Logan Roy to reach. Her memoir My Mess Is A Bit Of A Life has received rave reviews and the four-time series Emmy winner (one for Succession in drama and three for Veep in comedy) would be the first to admit that she’s in her happy place while crafting a new piece or collaborating on a new project.

Sometimes, collaboration is easier said than done. In our chat, Pritchett agreed that it’s almost a balancing act. How do you handle two intense individuals like Michael Showalter and Jesse Armstrong on the phone? Still, she stated the relationships she’s built help out during those moments. It also requires a great deal of compromise. We touched on the main reason why Will and Paul combined their efforts to acquire the rights to The Shrink Next Door, based on a podcast. It was silly to have those two competing when she knew they wanted to play opposite roles.

One apparent thing in our discussion is the joy Pritchett gets when something she wrote is honored. Think about all the things she’s had a hand in. Veep, Succession, and The Shrink Next Door to her it’s not about playing favorites or rooting for one project over another; it is about the creative process and creating memorable moments for audiences to enjoy.

Georgia Pritchett is Emmy eligible for Outstanding Drama Series for Succession and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series for The Shrink Next Door.
