Interview: Lauren Lapkus on ‘The Last Blockbuster’ and the joys of movie nostalgia [VIDEO]
These days, a little nostalgia goes a long way.
In the new documentary The Last Blockbuster, narrated by Lauren Lapkus (The Wrong Missy), the only remaining storefront from the once behemoth movie rental chain is profiled with the help of celebrity movie buffs like Adam Brody, Doug Benson and Paul Scheer. The store, located in Bend, Oregon, has managed to outlast its corporate overlord and develop a cult following of cinephiles and culture vultures alike.
From filmmakers Taylor Morden and Zeke Kamm, the documentary is a love letter to the heyday of VHS and those damn late fees, an examination of what it means to believe in something and to see it’s worth even when the world is changing around you.
Daniel Trainor and Sam Stone spoke to Lapkus about how a DM slide led to her involvement in the film, her own Blockbuster memories, the future of movies and Lauren plays the inaugural version of “Can You Guess Whether Or Not This Weird 90’s Movie Is Real?!”
The Last Blockbuster is now available on digital and VOD.
