Interview: With ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,’ Jane Levy takes center stage [VIDEO]
Actress Jane Levy has been delivering onscreen for years. It all started with the role of Mandy in Shameless, and from there, she got her first leading role on Suburgatory (2011-2014). Whether it’s been Evil Dead, About Alex, Bang Bang Baby, or her work on the Showtime revival of Twin Peaks, Levy always has exceeded expectations on screen.
But it’s been with NBC’s musical dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist that Levy has had her big break. While the first season dealt largely with the passing of her father to a degenerative disease (but not quite gone…), season two has further explored Zoey’s romantic relationships with her co-stars Skylar Astin (Max) and John Clarence Stewart (Simon) and the introduction of Aiden (Felix Mallard), the kid next door who’s suddenly grown up. She’s also leading her team, playing tutor to season guest star Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows) and dealing with her family drama. Did we mention that Zoey has a unique ability to hear the innermost thoughts of people around her as songs and musical numbers?
Part of Zoey’s appeal is how relatable she is and Levy fits in the role like a glove, infusing heart, charm and soul into a character like this. We spent some time with Levy to talk about all things Zoey, her previous work and things she might or might not have swiped from sets.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is currently streaming on Peacock. Jane Levy is eligible for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
