Jude Law to Receive Tribute from 47th Mill Valley Film Festival
Academy Award-nominated actor Jude Law will receive a tribute and award from the 47th Mill Valley Film Festival, which runs from October 3 – 13 this year.
Law will participate in an onstage conversation and be honored with the MVFF Award, which is presented to the recipients of the festival’s tributes and spotlights, special programs honoring and celebrating the work of distinguished artists and innovators in the filmmaking community.
“Jude Law’s striking performance in his new film Firebrand is a reminder of his extraordinary career, one that defies pigeonholing with roles that are romantic and iconic, edgy and seductive, encompassing the queer, historic and fantastical,” said Zoë Elton, MVFF director of programming. “From his early work on television and stage, including a Tony-nominated performance in ‘Indiscretions,’ to acclaimed films like ‘Wilde and Gattaca,’ Law has consistently showcased his versatile talent.”
Law’s 35-year career had him break out big in 1997 with four films: Bent, Wilde, Gattaca and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which set him on a path as the next Hollywood ‘It’ actor and just two years later he was Oscar-nominated in supporting actor for 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley. He would follow that up with 2001’s A.I. and 2002’s Road to Perdition and then another Oscar nomination, this time in lead, for 2003’s Cold Mountain.
He co-founded production company Riff Raff Entertainment Ltd. with Ben Jackson and developed material from the ground up. Under his Riff Raff banner, Law has produced films including 2004’s Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow , 2016’s HBO series The Young Pope and 2021’s True Things.
He’ll next be seen in the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Ron Howard’s Eden and The Order, from Challengers writer Justin Kurzel, also produced by Riff Raff. He is currently in production on the Netflix series Black Rabbit, starring opposite Jason Bateman, and executive produced under Riff Raff.
