SICARIO scores five nominations from Kansas City Film Critics

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle, the second oldest film critic organization in the country, released their nominees for the 50th Annual James Loutzenhiser Awards, recognizing the best in film for 2015. Sicario came out on top with five mentions; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Emily Blunt), Best Supporting Actor (Benicio Del Toro) and Best Original Screenplay. It’s the best showing yet for the film at the later regional critics awards. Mad Max: Fury Road, Spotlight and The Revenant also performed well, as they have all season, and Ex Machina made one of its strongest showings today.

Curiously, Brie Larson missed out on Best Actress while her film, Room, made it into Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. On the other side, Saoirse Ronan got a Best Actress nomination while her film, Brooklyn, was snubbed everywhere else.

Winners will be voted on and the results released this Sunday, December 20th.
