Let’s Go! The first trailer for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is here
As promised yesterday, the first teaser trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody has landed. Playing like a Queen greatest hits record, we get a lot more of Emmy-winner Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) here, teeth and all. Plus, costumes, costumes, costumes. The trailer also makes it clear that this is Freddie Mercury’s story, even if it’s officially sanctioned by Brian May. “The only thing more extraordinary than their music is his story,” the title cards say.
Official synopsis:
[box type=”shadow” align=”” class=”” width=””]Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. In the process, cementing the legacy of a band that were always more like a family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.[/box]
One of the big questions on many people’s minds is how Mercury’s sexuality and death from HIV will be addressed in this major motion picture from a top studio (20th Century Fox). Well, it’s a furiously cut trailer, to be sure, and we only get one fleeting glimpse at Mercury with (or about to be with) another man.
The film hit some turbulence last year when its original director Bryan Singer (X-Men) was fired, reportedly for erratic on-set behavior and missed days, and replaced with Eddie and the Eagle director Dexter Fletcher.
Bohemian Rhapsody also stars Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hollander, and Mike Myers and will be released in theaters on November 2nd from 20th Century Fox.
