‘Lies We Tell’ Leads 2024 Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) Nominations, ‘Poor Things’ Tops International Mentions
The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has announced the 2024 IFTA Nominations for the Irish Academy Awards across 28 categories in Film & Drama.
Across all film categories including craft and technical, Lies We Tell lead with 13 nominations, followed by That They May Face The Rising Sun and Double Blind with 11 nominations each, then LOLA with 7 nominations, Flora and Son received 6 nominations and Verdigris received nominations in 5 categories.
Irish actors Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) picked up nominations for Lead Actor while Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers) and Kenneth Branagh landed nods in Supporting Actor (Oppenheimer). Jesse Buckley (Fingernails) and Saoirse Ronan (Foe) were among the Lead Actress nominees with Saltburn’s Alison Oliver in Supporting Actress among that film’s four mentions.
Multiple Oscar winner Poor Things led the International film award categories with five, including Academy Award winner Emma Stone, Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe. All of Us Strangers, Barbie and Best Picture Oscar winner Oppenheimer earned three nominations each. Oscar nominees Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Annette Bening (Nyad), Bradley Cooper (Maestro) and Carey Mulligan (Maestro) grabbed nominations as did Greta Lee (Past Lives), Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon).
Last week, IFTA announced that legendary actor Stephen Rea (Academy Award nominee for 1992’s The Crying Game) will be presented with the Irish Academy Award for his Lifetime Achievement, and for his outstanding contribution to the Irish and international screen industry.
Winners will be announced at the 21st Anniversary IFTA Awards Ceremony taking place on Saturday, April 20 at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre. The Awards will be hosted for the first time by Emmy-winning broadcaster Baz Ashmawy.
