New Trailer and Poster for Iran’s Oscar Entry ‘The Salesman’
From award-winning writer/director Asghar Farhadi (The Oscar-winning A SEPARATION, THE PAST, ABOUT ELLY, FIREWORKS WEDNESDAY) comes a masterful, intimate and suspenseful new drama, THE SALESMAN, Iran’s official Oscar® entry for Best Foreign Language Film. Winner of the Best Actor (Shahab Hosseini) and Best Screenplay (Farhadi) awards at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the film also screened as a Special Presentation during the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
Synopsis:
[box type=”shadow” align=”” class=”” width=””]After their old flat becomes damaged, Emad (Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti), a young couple living in Tehran, are forced to move into a new apartment. However, once relocated, a sudden eruption of violence linked to the previous tenant of their new home dramatically changes the couple’s life, creating a simmering tension between husband and wife. A master at exposing domestic discord through his multi-layered screenplays, Farhadi’s slow-burning, visceral drama explores the psychology of vengeance and a relationship put under strain while continuing to explore the condition of women in Iran and the male psyche.[/box]
The Salesman is currently #2 in the Gold Rush Gang’s predictions for the shortlist of the Foreign Language Film Oscar.
THE SALESMAN will open in New York and Los Angeles on January 27th from Amazon Studios and Cohen Media Group with a national roll-out to follow.
