Ricky Gervais to Host Golden Globe Awards…Despite Vowing Never To Again

It was announced today that Golden Globe and Emmy-winning comedian Ricky Gervais will host the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. This, upon vowing never to return to the gig after his third stint before the highly successful three-year run of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Despite a very mixed reception to his hosting duties, which ended up largely being a roast of A-list celebrities that ruffled many feathers, ratings went up consistently during his 2010-2012 tenure. Immediately after his last year as host he infamously said, “Thank fuck that’s over. I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It’s like a parachute jump.” In a statement from NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt, he remarked “Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor – and send up – the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seat belts.”
Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced on 10 December. The 73rd annual Golden Globes air 10 January on NBC.
