‘ROMA,’ Lynne Ramsay, Elizabeth Debicki, Steven Yeun land Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) nominations
The Chicago Film Critics Association often hits us with some inspired nominations and this year is no different. They kicked up a little bit of dust last week, making an announcement of acting category placements that saw the women of The Favourite lining up differently than other awards bodies have been instructed, including Olivia Colman being put in supporting, Rachel Weisz staying there and Emma Stone in lead. Turns out it worked out for Colman and Weisz but not so much for Stone.
That didn’t stop The Favourite from tying for second-most nominations (7) with A Star Is Born though. Roma topped the list with 9.
Some of the group’s more eclectic noms were mentions for Lynne Ramsay in Best Director for You Were Never Really Here, Steven Yeun for Best Supporting Actor in Burning, and Elizabeth Debicki and Zoe Kazan for Best Supporting Actress in Widows and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, respectively.
In technical categories, the final film from Orson Welles, The Other Side of the Wind, earned a Best Editing nomination and Best Original Score found room for Mandy, Suspiria and You Were Never Really Here alongside First Man and If Beale Street Could Talk.
42 films were nominated across 18 categories, indicating a variety of great movies to choose from in 2018. The winners will be announced tomorrow night, December 8th, live from the CFCA Awards Dinner.
Here is the full list of nominations.
