‘Saint Maud,’ ‘His House’ ‘Rocks’ top British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) nominations

Rose Glass’ psychological horror thriller Saint Maud leads the 2020 British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) with 17, as nominations were announced today. Remi Weekes’ His House, a supernatural horror drama was right behind with 16 nominations including director, screenplay, debut and technical categories, and acting nominations for Wunmi Mosaku and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù.

Sarah Gavron’s Rocks, about a young teenage girl finds herself struggling to take care of herself and her younger brother, came in with 15 nominations including director, screenplay and actress for Bukky Bakray. Actor Riz Ahmed earned four nominations himself, not for Sound of Metal, but for another music-related drama, Mogul Mowgli, which he co-wrote. Florian Zeller’s The Father was nominated for six BIFAs, including film, director and actor for Anthony Hopkins.

The nominations were announced Wednesday by BIFA nominee Holliday Grainger and BAFTA Rising Star winner Micheal Ward. Winners will be announced in early February, 2021. Here is the full list of nominations.
