Satellite Awards: ‘Mank’ leads film nominations; ‘The Crown leads television
The International Press Academy (IPA) today announces its nominations for the 25th Satellite Awards in Motion Pictures and Television, along with Special Achievement Award Recipients.
Netflix’s Mank leads the motion picture nominations with 11, including Best Director (David Fincher), Best Actor – Drama (Gary Oldman) and Supporting Actress (Amanda Seyfried) yet missed out on a Best Picture – Drama nod in a field of 10. One Night in Miami was next with 9 nominations.
Netflix also led the television field with 6 nominations for The Crown, followed by five for HBO’s The Undoing.
The Special Achievement Award recipients are:
- Mary Pickford Award: Tilda Swinton
- Tesla Award: Dick Pope
- Auteur Award: Emerald Fennell, Promising Young Woman
- Best First Feature: Channing Godfrey Peoples, Miss Juneteenth
- Stunt Performance Award: Gaëlle Cohen
- Humanitarian Award: Mark Wahlberg
- Ensemble, Motion Picture: The Trial of the Chicago 7
- Ensemble, Television: The Good Lord Bird
The IPA was first to change the category Foreign Films to International Films over a decade ago and created a separate category for Animated and Mixed Media in Motion Pictures. It should be noted that other major awards shows have subsequently added similar changes.
The International Press Academy selects the Satellite Awards nominees from domestic and international submissions in 35 categories: 22 Motion Picture and 13 Television categories. Nominations are derived from advanced screenings, worldwide film festivals (including BAFTA, Cannes, Sundance, Telluride, TIFF) as well as from screeners to journalists and/or sanctioned lists available by the stated deadline.
Here is the full list of nominations in motion pictures and television; winners will be announced on February 15.
