‘Sentimental Value’ Leads 2026 European Film Awards Nominations

The nominations for the 38th European Film Awards were announced today where Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value earned six nods, the most of any film. Along with a director nomination, the film earned mentions for European Acttor (Stellan Skarsgård), European Actress (Renate Reinsve), European Screenwriter (Eskil Vogt and Trier) and Best European Film.
Two films, It Was Just an Accident and Sirāt, each earned four, including Best European Film and Best European Director (for Jafar Panahi and Oliver Laxe, respectively). Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling was a triple nominee with Film, Director and Screenwriter (Schilinski and Louise Peter).
All four films premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, all taking home a top prize apiece.
UPDATE: The EFA has revealed the craft nominations in eight categories where Sentimental Value, Sound of Falling and Sirāt all made a big showing, along with Bugonia. See below.
5,400 members of the European Film Academy participated in the nomination voting. These initial categories were revealed today at the Seville European Film Festival.
