FX’s Shōgun was the big winner at the 2024 Television Critics Association (TCA) awards tonight, winning four of its five nominations: Program of the Year, Achievement in Drama, Individual Achievement in Drama for Anna Sawai and New Program of the Year. Its only loss was Sawai’s co-star, Hiroyuki Sanada, nominated in the same category. Sawai is the ninth consecutive woman to win the award.

Hacks won two of its three nominations in the comedy categories, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement in Comedy for Jean Smart. It was the second win for Smart, who was victorious in 2021 for the first season of the Max Original series. She is the fifth person to win the category twice after David Hyde Pierce, Jane Kaczmarek, Jon Stewart and Louis C.K.

Baby Reindeer, which was also nominated for five awards, won the for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or Specials while fellow Netflix limited series Ripley went 0-5. The dominance of Shōgun and Hacks pushed out other previous winners and nominees this year like The Bear and Fargo. The second season of The Traitors was the winner in the Outstanding Achievement in Reality category.

David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks triumphed in the Heritage Award category and Andre Braugher, who passed away late last year, was Career Achievement Award winner. Braugher, whose television career began in the late 1980s in Kojak TV movies, was a two-time TCA winner for Homicide: Life on the Street.

Here is the complete list of winners of the 40th TCA Awards, which were hosted by Wendi McLendon-Covey and held their first in-person awards ceremony in five years.
