Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’ gets a dreamy teaser trailer from A24
A24 has released a 45-second first look teaser for Priscilla, the newest film from Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola, detailing the life of Priscilla and Elvis Presley and starring Cailee Spaeny (HBO’s Mare of Easttown) and Jacob Elordi (HBO’s Euphoria).
Based on Priscilla Presley’s bestselling memoir “Elvis and Me,” Coppola’s take on the one of the most famous and rocky relationships in American music history comes just a year after Baz Luhrmann’s hellzapoppin’ extravaganza Elvis that earned seven Oscar nominations, including one for star Austin Butler in Best Actor. Coppola takes a more reserved approach, with several of her trademarks: ambient or natural lighting, hazy and dreamlike but grounded in reality. Coppola again works with cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd (On the Rocks, The Beguiled) and also the band Phoenix for the film’s score (also On the Rocks, The Beguiled) and who were featured in Coppola’s 2006 film Marie Antoinette.
Official synopsis: When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a gentle best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
A24 will release Priscilla this October, making it a prime candidate for the major fall festivals. Here is the teaser.
