The Grammy Gods’ 56th Grammy Awards Predictions
The 56th Annual Grammy Awards are being held this Sunday, Jan 26th, 2014 and before that here we are, doing what we do best: predicting the winners for the major categories. Imparting their infinite wisdom, telling you like it is, crafting the future the way it is going to be, before all of it happens, are none other than our Grammy Gods who back in December worked out their oracles for the nominations as well.

Matthew Kelley Rand: Regardless of the fact that Lorde received nominations in both Record and Song of the Year for her massive “Royals,” it seems unlikely that they’d award her in either category without even mentioning her in Best New Artist. That, I feel, leaves room for Daft Punk to steal two big ones while also showing some love to P!nk, Nate Ruess, and Jeff Bhasker for their gorgeous work on her “Just Give Me a Reason.” Look for Kacey Musgraves to triumph over Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, as well; I just have a hunch/she completely deserves it.
Record of the Year: “Get Lucky” – Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams
Album of the Year: Random Access Memories – Daft Punk
Song of the Year: “Just Give Me a Reason” – P!nk feat. Nate Ruess
Best New Artist: Kacey Musgraves

David Long: The Grammys this year seem to be enamored with the Hip-hop act Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. While the Hip-Hop categories may go to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z, M&R look destined to sweep up the main categories with wins in Best New Artist and Album of the Year along with the possibility of Song of the Year.

Jeffery Berg: Despite never awarding a largely dance and electronic album, the Grammys will likely go for Daft Punk since they did well commercially and also features some legends. In Record of the Year, “Get Lucky” could spoil but I’m not sure since soft pop adult contemporary hits usually win out in the end. Bruno Mars was shut out of Album of the Year but I can see his well-produced Sting-like track being the fall back choice in both Record and Song. For New Artist, the duo with a ton of smash hits this year and an Album nod seems like an easy win though Kacey Musgraves could surprise.

George Portades: For the Record of the Year, I believe they’ll go for the song of the year, although sometimes that doesn’t happen (“Call Me Maybe”). If they’re going for a Lorde sweep, then expect “Royals” to win. In the album category, while I don’t recall Rap/Hip Hop albums winning that often, I can possibly see The Heist winning due to its breakthrough last year. Swift’s won before, and I think the Grammys may be hesitant to give the award to a dance/electronic group or to a relative new artist (Kendrick Lamar). Bareilles might have a shot, since they’ve given her previous noms (in the Best Pop Female Performance) in the past years but this time they’ve included her in the biggest category. For the Song, “Same Love” got a social message and rare one to even breakthrough at Pop radio, plus sometimes the Grammys like to go for prestige rather than just straight out Pop songs (I’m looking at you “Roar” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Just Give Me a Reason”). This year not entirely too excited about New Artist category, but I’ll go for the Country gal Musgraves.

Album of the Year: The Heist – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Song of the Year: “Same Love” – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert
Best New Artist: Kacey Musgraves
