‘The Hateful Eight’ Trailer: “Spend the Holidays with Someone You Hate”
A brand spanking new trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s 8th film, The Hateful Eight, has dropped and it’s more than we’ve ever seen before. Heavy on Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell (furthering rumors that they could be pushed in Lead at The Oscars) in terms of screen time and dialogue and finally, finally something from Jennifer Jason Leigh. Although, considering her character’s pension for the N-word, it’s probably why she gets just a single line in this trailer. Now, it’s that word that could court some pretty intense backlash for Tarantino, who’s no stranger to fielding barbs about the use of it in his films. Combine that with his other recent controversy with the New York Police department and you have the makings of a big hit or a big flop. Which will it be?
The trailer gives us character name introductions for everyone:
1 – The Bounty Hunter (Jackson)
2 – The Hangman (Russell)
3 – The Confederate (Bruce Dern)
4 – The Sheriff (Walton Goggins)
5 – The Mexican (Demian Bichir)
6 – The Little Man (Tim Roth)
7 – The Cow Puncher (Michael Madsen)
and
8 – The Prisoner (Leigh)
The Hateful Eight opens on Christmas Day from The Weinstein Company and will be shown in two different versions; one, the “Roadshow version,” is 3+ hours with an intermission and in 70mm, the other will remove the 12-minute overture/intermission and six minutes designed for the 70 mm projection.
