The very anticipated first teaser trailer for The Revenant, from Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman) and starring five-time Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) is here and it’s a doozy of a teaser. Fast, furious, gorgeously shot by Birdman and Gravity‘s Oscar-winning cinematographer EmmanuelLubeski in natural light and what looks to be some clever tactics (as in Birdman and Children of Men), the trailer is visceral and almost wordless but breathtaking in its urgency.
Could this be the vehicle that finally gets DiCaprio the Oscar? The survivalist element and physical extremes the actor puts himself through are definitely things the Academy loves and coming off such a high profile win from the film’s director could catapult DiCaprio to the top of the list now.
Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel).
The Revenant opens on December 25th in limited release and wide on January 8th from 20th Century Fox.
