The teaser trailer for Damien Chazelle’s ‘La La Land’ will have you dancing on air
Every decade or so there is a resurgence of the movie musical. Chicago and Moulin Rouge! did in in the early 2000s and now the teaser for Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Whiplash is here and boy, is it beautiful. La La Land, the story of a jazz pianist (Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Oscar-nominee Emma Stone) recalls the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals like An American in Paris and set in modern day Los Angeles. Lushly shot, dialogue-free and with Gosling singing “City of Stars” (cue up that Best Original Song Oscar nomination), this third outing for Gosling and Stone as co-stars (after Gangster Squad and Crazy, Stupid, Love) is sure to light up the screen.
La La Land also stars Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock and John Legend. The film is set to open this year’s Venice Film Festival (where the jazz-infused Best Picture-winning Birdman also started) and then land in theaters on December 2nd in limited release (and wider on December 16th) from Lionsgate.
