‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ NYFF Q&A with Joel Coen, Frances McDormand, Denzel Washington and more

The 59th edition of the New York Film Festival officially kicked off on September 24, 2021 with the Opening Night selection, the world premiere of Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, presented by Campari.

At the film’s press conference, Joel Coen and select members of his cast, including Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, Bertie Carvel, Harry Melling, and Moses Ingram, in conversation with NYFF’s Director of Programming, Dennis Lim. Their wide-ranging discussion covers McDormand’s previous experience with the play to Washington’s history with Shakespeare, journeying all the way back to his days as a college student close by Film at Lincoln Center. Previous film adaptations of Macbeth are also discussed, as are the different acting styles that were encouraged on set.

The Tragedy of Macbeth opens in theaters on December 25 from A24 and will premiere on AppleTV+ beginning January 14.
