‘The Young and the Restless’ Leads 2025 Daytime Emmy Nominations

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences revealed its nominations for the 52nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which will take place this fall on October 17 in Pasadena, California (moving from the show’s traditional June ceremony), where The Young and the Restless leads, followed by General Hospital and Days of Our Lives.
The Young and the Restless led with 19 nominations on Thursday, followed by General Hospital with 16 and Days of Our Lives with 13. The Best Drama Series category is back to just those three nominees after last year’s record-tying six contenders. The much talked about new soap opera Beyond the Gates was not eligible this year as it debuted in 2025 but will contend at the 2026 awards.
The 52nd Daytime Emmys eligibility window was between January 1 to December 31, 2024 and the show has yet to secure a broadcast partner for the ceremony as CBS’ most recent two-year deal to air the program ended last year.
Drew Barrymore, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson are all up for Best Talk Series Host for their self-titled shows alongside Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb for Today With Hoda and Jenna and last year’s winners, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos for Live With Kelly and Mark.
Among major changes to this year’s Daytime Emmy competition are new categories including Outstanding Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Program, which looks at new performers “on their first Daytime contract with no previous Daytime Emmy acting nominations. They must have been on their Daytime Drama for two years or less, and must be onscreen in a speaking role with at least one multi-episode story arc. There is no age restriction.”
The Culinary Series category has been split into two: Outstanding Culinary Instructional Series and Outstanding Culinary Cultural Series; while the Outstanding Travel, Nature, and Adventure category was also divided into Outstanding Travel and Adventure Program and Outstanding Nature and Science Program.
Also different this year, NATAS has added “Outstanding Regional Content in a Daytime Genre,” which it says is not an Emmy-eligible category, but instead an award for any regional program winner “that won at their home contest between the dates of June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025 in the following applicable categories: Lifestyle, Magazine, Entertainment, and Arts/Entertainment Long or Short Form.” Winners will receive a crystal pillar trophy instead of an Emmy (and presumably, not counted for EGOT status).
“We’re excited to recognize the exceptional individuals and teams who make daytime television great every year and in some cases, every day,” said NATAS prexy/CEO Adam Sharp. “As the Daytime landscape continues to expand, we’re excited to introduce new categories to recognize the boundary-pushing work being done, and we’re enthusiastic to convene with and celebrate the whole Daytime community in one ceremony.”
Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers with Rachel Schwartz serving as Head of the Daytime Emmy Awards. The firm of Lutz & Carr, LLP, provides accounting services for the competition.
