TIFF47: Films from Jennifer Lawrence, Kelvin Harrison, Jr. and Anya Taylor-Joy highlight Gala and Special Presentation lineup of the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival
Today, TIFF announced the selections in the Gala and Special Presentations programs for the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, taking place September 8–18. This list of films from the 2022 Official Selection features 18 Galas and 45 Special Presentations.
“We’re excited to welcome some of the most celebrated figures in movies back to Toronto to present their Gala and Special Presentation films,” said Cameron Bailey, TIFF CEO. “With stories that span six continents and feature performances you just have to see, this lineup delivers the rich experiences we wait all year for. Cinema is alive. Red carpets are back. And the best audience in the world awaits them in Toronto.”
Adding to the previously announced world premieres of Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, the Billy Eichner gay rom-com Bros, Harry Styles in My Policeman and Viola Davis as the leader of an African tribe of women warriors in The Woman King will be The Greatest Beer Run Ever from Peter Farrelly (who kicked off his Best Picture Oscar-winning Green Book at TIFF), Rodrigo García’s Raymond & Ray with Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor, All Quiet on the Western Front from Edward Berger, Lila Neugebauer’s Causeway starring Jennifer Lawrence, Chevalier from Stephen Williams and starring Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Mark Mylod’s The Menu, starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy and Stephen Frears’ The Lost King with Sally Hawkins.
Based on the type of premiere, we can surmise which films will also be heading to Telluride the first week of September, ahead of showing up at TIFF. They include Cannes winners Broker and Holy Spider, plus Empire Of Light, One Fine Morning, Women Talking and The Wonder. Films like The Banshees of Inisherin, The Eternal Daughter, The Son and The Whale are listed as ‘North American Premieres,’ implying we will not see them at the mountain fest.
Here is the first major wave of films from the Gala Presentation and Special Presentation lineups of the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 8-18, 2022.
