Trailer for ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ starring Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch Gives Peace a Chance
One Man. One Message. One Revolution. One Legend.
Paramount Pictures today released the first trailer for Bob Marley: One Love, a biopic of the legendary reggae artist and celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. The film is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who last helmed King Richard, which earned Will Smith the Oscar for Best Actor.
The film details the rise of Marley in Jamaica with a focus on two pivotal moments in the artist’s life: his assassination attempt and his comeback concert for peace. On December 3, 1976, two days before he was to stage a concert in an attempt to quell recent political violence, even armed men raided Marley’s residence in Kingston, Jamaica while Marley and his band were on break from rehearsal. Marley’s wife, Rita, was shot in the head in her car in the driveway. The gunmen shot Marley in the chest and arm. His manager, Don Taylor, was shot in the legs and torso. Band employee Louis Griffiths took a bullet to his torso as well. There were no fatalities.
On April 22, 1978, The One Love Peace Concert brought together 16 of reggae’s biggest acts, and was dubbed by the media as the “Third World Woodstock,” “Bob Marley plays for Peace” and simply, “Bob Marley Is Back.” The concert attracted more than 32,000 spectators with the proceeds of the show going towards “much needed sanitary facilities and housing for the sufferahs in West Kingston.” It was Marley’s first concert appearance since his assassination attempt.
Bob Marley: One Love stars Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami) and Lashana Lynch (The Woman King) and Bob and Rita Marley and was produced in partnership with the Marley family (Ziggy Marley, Rita Marley and Cedella Marley) with Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner, and Robert Teitel. Richard Hewitt, Orly Marley and Matt Solodky serve as executive producers.
Paramount Pictures is set to release Bob Marley: One Love on January 12, 2024. The film is not yet rated and no details of an Oscar-qualifying release in December have been announced. Here is the first trailer.
