EMMYS: Glee, Shameless, Jane the Virgin Can Compete as Comedies

After the announcement from the Television Academy that one-hour shows must compete in the drama category, it was swiftly that the Fox, Showtime and the CW, the networks that air Glee, Shameless and Jane the Virgin (respectively) would submit for consideration in the comedy competition and the academy has agreed. The decision was made by an industry panel and required a two-thirds vote to pass. No word yet on the fate of Orange is the New Black, whom many think the rule was specifically targeted against.
While Glee has submitted as a comedy at the Emmys since its freshman season (where it did very well its first few seasons), Shameless had submitted in Drama its first three seasons and only saw traction for Joan Cusack in Guest Actress. After switching to comedy though the show added nominations for William H. Macy at the Emmys, Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild, the last of which he won this year. Jane the Virgin, in its first season, won two Golden Globes this year; for lead actress Gina Rodriguez and for the show in Comedy Series.
Nominations for the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced the morning of Thursday, July 16.
