2015 Oscar Predictions: BEST ACTRESS – Julianne Moore (Still Alice) Gets a Perfect Score

When you’re a lock, you’re a lock. Julianne Moore (Still Alice) now has a perfect score of 50 with the Gold Rush Gang, meaning all 10 of us have her at the #1 spot. And rightfully so, the stars have aligned in a way that they rarely do with the Oscars. Combining timing, overdue factor and exceptionally strong reviews Sony Pictures Classics is going to have two Best Actress winners in a row. And with Kristen Stewart getting ‘best of career’ notices herself, Moore could easily pull her into Supporting Actress, but more on that tomorrow.

Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) flip-flop for 2nd place again, this time with Witherspoon coming out on top as Pike’s supernova status falls back down to Earth, just as the film and its director (David Fincher) have also done this month.

The one to watch out for is Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything). She moves up 7 points, ahead of Amy Adams to land in 4th. Poor Amy Adams (Big Eyes). It wasn’t but a few months ago that she held Moore’s status as the overdue actress but since then disastrous screenings, word of Harvey Scissorhands cutting the film to shreds and poor marketing are dooming her chances at even a nomination now. When you consider that Meryl Streep (Into the Woods) and Jessica Chastain (A Most Violent Year) are both up in the air in terms of category placement, either or both landing here could end Adams’ shot before it even starts.

  • Kristen Stewart shouldn't even be in the top ten for consideration. Her performance is small and insignificant, she does nothing outstanding. You have to be exceptional to be noticed for Supporting Actress, and the competition is too stiff this year for her to get a nod. Of course Sony is in full PR mode, they need attention for their film which really has nothing special going for it besides Julianne's star turn.

And when it comes to the Oscars, the Academy votes for the whole person, baggage and all. Stewart has too many scandals attached to her name that would discourage Academy voters to nominate her. Her cheating scandal with Rupert Sanders was a scant 2 years ago, it's still fresh in everyone's memory. She needs much more time and a far stronger performance before she'll be nominated for anything.

    • You are ignorantly out of place here. Your tabloid rant doesn't belong here.
This is a serious actors forum and only serious critics are welcome.

      • Sorry, It's Kristen Stewart's fans who are ignorant and racist. They're tweeting hate at Chloe Mortetz right this minute because she tweeted about how fantastic she thinks FKA Twigs is. Every single hateful tweet is coming from someone with a KStew avi/user name.

She has the worst fans in the world, and they, along with her scandalous reputation, will keep her from being nominated for anything. The Academy takes more than the performance into account before making nominations.

When it comes to the Oscars, Stewart has counted herself out. She has committed the usual banal celebrity crimes -- cheating with a married man, public meltdowns, screaming hissy fits -- that usually turns the tide of public opinion against a performer. And other actors don't want to be associated with that kind of low class behavior.

This year Stewart is no contender. Vulture just put out their list of the top 5 and she's not on it.
