2015 Oscars: Gold Rush Gang October Predictions – Turning Theory Into Reality
Edward Norton holds court once again and by a healthy margin. Another Foxcatcher casualty, Mark Ruffalo, falls a bit but stays in 2nd place. But, nipping at his heels is his Sony Pictures Classics competitor, Whiplash‘s J.K. Simmons. He moves up 10 points and is likely to keep rising. His performance is the stuff of Supporting Actor Oscar fodder and his veteran status all but assures him a nomination and possibly a win. The Boyhood love looks to be extending past Patricia Arquette as Ethan Hawke ends up just outside the top 5 this month. Selma supporting stars Tim Roth and Tom Wilkinson switch spots with Roth in and Wilkinson out, for now.
As mentioned above, Patricia Arquette is still going strong here with a solid first place showing. But, The Imitation Game‘s Keira Knightley makes a big move from 5th to 2nd after good notices from Toronto. Selma‘s Carmen Ejogo suffers a bit as a result, as does Birdman‘s Emma Stone. Meryl Streep shows up again, this time in Supporting but also in the #5 spot. Most feel that she’s secure for a nom as soon as we have official word on her category placement. The strength of Julianne Moore and Still Alice gives breath to a possible Kristen Stewart nomination and Jessica Chastain’s wobbly Best Actress possibilities could be paving a way for a possible déjà vu in which her roles in less seen films merely boost her chances for a nomination for a big blockbuster like she did for The Help, this time for Interstellar.
