Best Supporting Actress has turned out to be a rich category this year and, according to the Gold Rush Gang, Boyhood‘s Patricia Arquette looks very solid for her first Oscar nomination. Good word and first pics of Carmen Ejogo in Selma also put her in a strong position. Emma Stone’s rave reviews in Birdman from Venice have her in 3rd place but we might see her numbers rise a bit next month.
Jessica Chastain remains a firm contender here for A24‘s A Most Violent Year. A good, but not great, test screening last month brought her numbers down a bit and with her in yet another year with multiple films all being released within months of each other, voters might have a hard time deciding where to reward her. When this happened in 2010 they gave her a nomination for the highest grossing film she was in (The Help) versus others in which she got better reviews. Could we see that again this year with Interstellar trumping her work in A Most Violent Year?
The good print from The Imitation Game has put Keira Knightley in a distant 5th but still far ahead of her closest competitor, Laura Dern in Wild.
