The Television Critics Association have announced their 2015 nominations and freshman shows Empire and Transparent lead the way with four nominations apiece, including both making it into Program of the Year. In fact, the amount of new blood in this year’s nominees forced out even winners from last year. Orange is the New Black, The Good Wife and Louie all won last year and came up empty-handed today.
The Fox megahit Empire pulled in mentions in Individual Achievement in Drama (for Taraji P. Henson), Outstanding New Program, Outstanding Achievement in Drama and Program of the Year.
In the Individual Achievement in Comedy, Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer) continue their banner year in 2015 with nominations there. Each of their shows also managed Achievement in Comedy nominations and Jane the Virgin also grabbed one for Outstanding New Program. Four of the five nominees for Individual Achievement in Comedy are women this year, which also includes Constance Wu from Fresh Off the Boat. The Golden Globe winning Transparent grabbed nominations in Outstanding New Program, Outstanding Individual Achievement in Comedy (for Jeffrey Tambor), Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Program of the Year.
Elsewhere, Twin Peaks again vies for the Heritage Award for what feels like the 42nd year in a row. Will the series reboot next year help or hurt its chances this year?
