The 2016 British Independent Film Award nominations have been announced, with Ken Loach’s 2016 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or–winning I, Daniel Blake leading with a field-best seven nominations. So popular was Ken Loach with BIFA this year, a documentary the director and his films was also nominated. Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, Babak Anvari’s Under the Shadow (the UK’s submission for the Foreign Language Film Oscar this year) and Rachel Tunnard’s Adult Life Skills all received six nods apiece. Two American indies in the Oscar race, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight, were nominated in the International Independent Film category. Overall, more than 130 British films were submitted for consideration, with 32 British features receiving nominations.
